AIT Formally Admits 586 Students at 2026 Matriculation Ceremony

The Accra Institute of Technology (AIT) has formally inducted 586 newly admitted students into its academic community at a colourful matriculation ceremony held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the university’s Knowledge City Campus, Kokomlemle, Accra.

The ceremony marked a defining moment for the new entrants as they officially became members of a university widely recognised for its technology-driven education, innovation, research excellence, and professional development focus.

Diverse Academic Programmes and Growing Postgraduate Enrolment

The 2026 matriculating class cuts across a broad range of disciplines, reflecting AIT’s expanding academic footprint in science, technology, and management education.

Of the total number admitted:

  • 502 students were enrolled into undergraduate programmes
  • 64 students joined master’s degree programmes
  • 20 students were admitted into doctoral (PhD) programmes

Programmes offered include Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, Occupational Health and Safety Management, Project Management, as well as advanced doctoral research programmes.

President Calls for a New Generation of ‘Sovereign Learners’

Addressing the matriculating students, AIT President, Professor Clement K. Dzidonu, congratulated them on their admission and challenged them to embrace what he described as “The Age of the Sovereign Learner.”

He noted that the accelerating pace of artificial intelligence, automation, and digital transformation demands graduates who are independent thinkers, continuous learners, innovators, and responsible leaders.

According to Professor Dzidonu, universities must go beyond awarding certificates to developing capable human beings who can think critically, solve problems creatively, adapt to change, and contribute meaningfully to society.

Opportunity, Possibility and Difference as a Learning Mindset

Speaking under the theme “Preparing the Sovereign Learner for a World of Opportunity, Possibility and Difference,” the AIT President urged students to adopt the Opportunity–Possibility–Difference (OPD) Perspective.

He encouraged them to:

  • Recognise opportunities within and beyond the classroom
  • Explore possibilities through research, innovation, and experimentation
  • Create meaningful differences in their lives, communities, and professional careers

According to Professor Dzidonu, success at AIT requires more than institutional support and facilities. He stressed the importance of personal discipline and ethical conduct in achieving academic and professional goals. The professor of computer science highlighted effective time management and a commitment to lifelong learning as essential factors for success.

Matriculants Pledge Commitment to Excellence and Service

On behalf of the newly admitted students, Mr. Samuel Peace Kamara delivered the matriculants’ acceptance speech. He expressed gratitude to the university’s leadership, faculty, and staff for the warm reception accorded to the new students.

He pledged that the matriculating class would uphold AIT’s values, pursue academic excellence diligently, and develop into responsible professionals capable of making positive contributions to society at national and global levels.

AIT’s Growing Reputation in Technology-Focused Education

The ceremony ended with a formal declaration welcoming the students as full members of the AIT academic community. They were encouraged to embrace the opportunities that lie ahead. The new students were also urged to pursue excellence and contribute to sustainable development.

AIT continues to strengthen its reputation as one of Ghana’s leading private universities. The institution has been ranked Top Private University in Ghana by the Ghana Tertiary Awards, and has won the Best Technology University in Ghana Award for four consecutive years. It has also received international recognition as the Best Technology-Focused University in Ghana by Global Business Insight, United Kingdom.

Accreditation and International Academic Partnerships

AIT is accredited by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission to offer both campus-based and Open University undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The university has strategic academic affiliations with two key institutions.

It partners with KNUST for campus-based undergraduate programmes in engineering, computer science/IT, and business administration. Additionally, it collaborates with the Open University of Malaysia for Open University programmes at the undergraduate, master’s, and PhD levels.
